Worried about feeling awkward during your wedding photos?
Don’t be - photos with me are fun, relaxed and on your terms! It’s completely natural to feel apprehensive about having your photo taken – not many of us are used to getting in front of a camera any bigger than a smart phone!
5 tips to help you feel comfortable during wedding portraits:
1.Choose your photographer carefully & get to know them:
Before the big day - make sure it’s a right fit with your photographer. You’ll potentially be spending quite a bit of time with them, so you want to make sure that you feel comfortable and relaxed with them. I always jump on a Zoom call with couples to get to know one another and see if it’s a good fit for both parties.
“After our initial conversation we knew that Alison was the photographer for us, she was so easy to get along with.
Leading up to the wedding we were nervous about the photographs as neither my husband or I like having our photo taken but she made it so easy and comfortable for us. There’s a few photos we didn’t even realise were being taken and they are stunning!
She slotted in with our family and friends so easily, and everyone had such a laugh with the group shots. We are so delighted with our wedding photos!”

2.Keep moving:
On the day during your couple photos - keep moving! This creates some of the best natural moments😍. Whether that’s simply holding hands and walking towards me or giving your partner a twirl. Of course, I will offer some suggestions for posing like where to look, where to put your hands, perhaps touch noses with each other!😄 But if there’s something you want to try, go for it! And I’ll be there to cheer you on.
“Highly recommend Alison for wedding photos. She made us both feel relaxed and at ease on our special day, no pressure and had a good laugh during the sessions! Photos turned out better than we ever imagined so thank you so much again x”

3.Let your personality shine through:
The best photos are the ones that ooze personality. So, whether that means embracing the awkwardness, being silly, having a laugh with each other, please go for it! Those natural, authentic moments are what I’m all about! 😍
4.Most importantly, treat the time for your wedding photos, as time for each other:
Often couples don’t spend that much time together on their wedding day, so treat it as quality time with each other to do whatever you’d like! You may want to have a think in advance where you’d like to go and what you’d like to do with me. I’m always up for whisking you away in my car on a mini adventure if that’s your vibe! Or, if you’re both keen to spend as much time as possible with your wedding party, we can simply take 20 minutes and explore the grounds of your venue together whilst I snap away getting lots of gorgeous shots of you both. Turn the idea of photos into an exciting experience, something to look forward to, rather than something to worry about.
“Can't recommend Alison enough! She played such a special part in our wedding day. She made us all feel so comfortable and relaxed and this came across in her beautiful images. She really listened to what we all wanted and the images are just above and beyond anything we could of imagined. She took us to the most amazing locations and had so much fun throughout the whole day! Did not stop laughing and giggling. Thanks again!”

5.Book a pre-wedding shoot with me:
This could be a shoot to celebrate your engagement or simply just some gorgeous couple’s photos to get you comfortable in front of the camera. It gets you a wee preview of your wedding photo session and you’ll see how lovely you'll look on camera! You could choose a venue dear to your heart for this or use it as a chance to explore your wedding venue with me before the big day.
It’s also an opportunity to bring along a canine pal (and/or horse!) who may not be comfortable or allowed to come to the wedding. That way you have photos of the whole family together - without the worry of doggy footprints on dresses - and some of the 'posing pressure' is removed by you naturally interacting with your pup and one another.
